The Yo Baby Kick Flipper & Yo Baby Skateboarding Moves DVD (sold separately) gets a standing ovation. Since Ben is not quite 3 1/2 years old, we were concerned that this toy would be beyond his age level. To our surprise, our son loved the toy from the minute he started using it. Also to our surprise, he wasn’t too bad at it, either. He isn’t doing any kick flips or 360s (thank goodness), but he is learning how to balance and how to start manoeuvring the board.
This toy has everything going for it. It is a challenging, engaging toy that gets kids off the couch and safely on their way to mastering skateboarding techniques without the scrapes and bruises that usually go along with it. As it is recommended for carpet, sand or grass, it is a perfect way to teach kids skateboarding moves before they hit the asphalt - literally. That being said, although it is similar to a skateboard, it is not solely a toy to teach kids to skateboard; rather, it is a fun activity on its own.
As winter sets in, this toy enables kids to keep active indoors and continue developing their skateboarding techniques at any age level. The toy has a long-life cycle too, and spans the stage when a toddler needs to master coordination and balance, to the stage when young teens want to create new, innovative skateboarding tricks.
